Dressing up a turtle neck dress.

Turtleneck evening set

The black turtle neck dress can be seen as a little conservative or simply unadventurous but if you honestly think that you are simply looking at it the wrong way. The nun-dress is a perfect, elegant, play full and comfortable base for so many different looks. Here I've laid out a little set here showing one idea of how the turtle neck dress can be brought into the evening. I used a patterned blazer to add a little interest to the outfit but a little bit of texture or form will do the same thing so keel an open mind. The necklace was selected to add a little gleam and used the shoes and clutch to add a nice playful accent colour but you can really play around how you want this combination to work. For example using a darker colour or keeping the accent solely in the jewelry.  The mixture of colour and pattern with the well constructed  dress is youthful, professional with a definite night appeal.

How to dress a turtleneck dress business casual.

Think of spring and keep it warm.

Nun-Dress Style 1! Keeping warm  but with inspiration from spring. Try playing with a few different colors and neutral tones allowing the rust to be a great accent point! Small details like a scarf or earrings will add a little whimsy and youth to an outfit while a blazer and heels will keep it business casual and easy to bring into the evening!

How to style a satin dress for day wear.

One of my favorite pieces of Megs fall/winter collection (Which is Currently on sale from $220 to $154!!)  was this satin shift with the ruched side. Its simple, glamorous and sophisticated. However, this kind of dress can be a tad, fear inducing?  Satin is a luxurious material with a beautiful sheen but because of that it is dominantly taken and used as a special occasion dress. Which must be great for those of us with accommodating budgets and closet space but I for one demand my clothing work for me every month of the year. So here is one suggested set of clothing that can be use to re-interrupt the dress for day wear.

How to dress down a satin dress.

1. Textures.
We love the sheen so don't be afraid of it but add different textures to emphasize it and give the out fit character. By add knits, swede, velvet and/or a little sparkle your out fit gain complexity and the sense of practicality.

2. Colour.
Since the fabric is already so lux I would keep the colours in a neutral and natural ranges. Obviously this dress is quiet light so I added some darker pieces in the same color vein to make it integrate in day environments and again add some dimension.

3. Shape.
Since this dress is such a classic and simple shift adding a little bit of draping and structure will both add to its functionality but transform it into a modern and fun outfit.

4. Accessories.
You obviously don't need every thing above to be able to wear a dress during the day but use what you have. If you like the idea of a nice scarf to break up the lines of a dress try adding a pendant for some sparkle. if you like the Jacket cardigan combo try a collard necklace to draw attention to your face.

Have fun and play around!

What should I wear to my family Christmas party?

ITS SO CLOSE TO CHRISTMAS! I don't know about you but a much as I look forward to the family parties; the food, the drinks, catching up and seeing who's how tall!? I want to look good and that can be a little stressful. So here, better late than ever I'm going to lay out a few easy to put together out fits for different occasions.

The semi formal Christmas party.

A lot of families are opting for the semi formal Christmas parties recently. It add emphasis to the occasion and who doesn't want picture of people looking their semi best.  Using one of  Meg's fall/winter pieces I'll show you how can take a dress and using different textures, accessorize it to create a warm elegant but practical outfit .

1. The Satin Dress. Satin is a great fabric, its luxurious, glamorous and shiny! Left on its own its a perfect formal dress but for more practical and less sexy occasions it is the perfect texture to mix with other more common fabrics to bring character and dimension to an outfit. This particular cut has a timeless scoop neck which frames the neck and face while the simple skirt is a perfect back drop for  accessories. *keep in mind it doesn't have to be satin! and sheen or delicate texture will do to create great outfit.

2. A cardigan. I'm highly bias here, I'm rarely seen with out a cardigan but let me explain. Using a cardigan to break up the dress completely transform the outfit. Instanly from formal to semi, knit of a wool, cotton, cashmere what ever you have make the satin become an accent point. *Don't be afraid of a pattern if you'd like to but in that case keep the other accessories simple.

3. The belt works in tying together the rest of the accessories as well as adding a focal point on the outfit. If your not a belt person don't worry you'll look great with out, but do try adding a brooch or necklace.

4. and 5. I included the beaded clutch and the bronze scale heal to show how different textures work together to make a diverse and captivating outfit. Try and choose items in the same color family and if they have some nice detail such as the scales or the beads all the better to create a luxurious and esthetically pleasing outfit.

Internet Bliss

Shit Girls Say is an awesome video for a little break, a good laugh and a little bit of self reflection. Best and worst thing; I know I do at least half these things daily. Cut to me stuffing chips in my face.  Fun fact as well this short was partially filmed at two of our Toronto neighbors The Magic Pony and The Beaconsfield.  Take a peek it is most delightful.

p.s. Love Juliette Lewis.
